My Top Picks of 2019

Hi guys! Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s now 2020!

Today I have my top picks of 2019 for you. Was going to do a “Top 19 of 2019”, but I couldn’t come up with 19 products to talk about! 2019 was kind of an underwhelming year for me despite the constant makeup releases. Not a whole lot really caught my eye. Instead I was pulling the trigger more on things that had been on my radar for awhile. But there were a few new launches in 2019 I couldn’t get my grubby paws on fast enough!

So… some of the things I’ll be talking about today were in fact new releases in 2019. Others are either rediscovered old favorites or “new to me” things I finally tried after hemming and hawing over them for ages.

So grab a snack, get comfy and let’s get going!

ColourPop Just A Tint Lip Crayons

This is probably my favorite product launched in 2019. Sure jumbo lip crayons are nothing new and I’ve owned several over the years. But these ones from ColourPop are different. The formula is really good… not too sheer and not too opaque. It’s really just a ‘tint” of color that’s enough without going over the top. The colors are beautiful, the formula is super comfortable, and the color wears down evenly. I own 3 shades currently (Gimme S’More, Cherry Picking & Nude Beach) and I want more. I found myself grabbing for these more than regular lipsticks.

Stilazzi x Jordan Liberty Darkroom Palette

For those who don’t know, Stilazzi is an indie brand that’s more known with professional MUA’s than the mainstream makeup consumer. I discovered them a few years ago at The Makeup Show. When I saw this palette was coming out, I was excited. Jordan Liberty is one of my favorite professional MUA’s. This palette did not disappoint me in the lease. I love there’s both cool and warm tones as well as the variety of colors and finishes in the palette. You can read my full review here if you missed it.

L’Oreal Infallible Freshwear Foundation

I don’t know if this launched at the end of 2018 or early 2019, but I tried it out early last year and immediately loved it. This is one of the BEST drugstore foundations EVER. People with dry skin love it. P.eople with oily/combo skin (like me) love it. I was amazed at how well it plays with my skin type. It looks fresh all day with minimal (if any) breakdown. It’s held up in the brutal Florida summer heat and humidity. I’ve gone through multiple bottles of it. This is in my top 3 foundations EVER.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer

Yeah this isn’t new. But I never tried it until early 2019. I got a travel size to try and was immediately hooked and I understood why so many raved about it. This primer works amazingly with EVERY foundation I own. It’s come to be the ONLY primer I use (along with a more pore-filling one like the Smashbox, which I only use on my nose as my pores there are hideously large). I blew through 2 travel sizes and finally bit the bullet and got a full size one. Love it.

Beakey Blenders

I discovered these by chance. I was looking up makeup sponges on Amazon and saw these in a pack of 5 for under $10. They had a good rating, so I decided to give them a shot. And I’m glad I did because I LOVE them! These sponges are latex-free and work just as well (if not better) than a $20 Beauty Blender. I’m always looking for affordable Beauty Blender dupes and the Beakey Blenders might be my favorite ones yet (and you guys know how much I love the pink L’Oreal sponge). They blend out foundation really nicely without absorbing too much product and they wash up really nice and easy too with a mild soap. I saw Beakey also sells makeup brushes, so I plan on ordering some of those in the near future.

Hourglass Veil Loose Translucent Setting Powder

I got a travel size of this to try for setting my undereye concealer. I really liked the result. Then one day I tried setting my entire face with it… and that was my downfall. This powder made me look nice and airbrushed and just looked gorgeous. Plus my other makeup applies so nicely on top of it. I HATE it’s so expensive though (but really worth it). I did buy a full size (which I’ve about used up and recently repurchased), but I try to use it sparingly so it lasts longer.

Michael Todd Beauty Sonicsmooth Dermaplaning System

I used to shave my peach fuzz off with a regular razor, but it would always cause breakouts. I picked this sonic dermaplaning kit up at Ulta when it was on sale 50% off during the fall 21 Days of beauty. HUGE improvement. It removes my peach fuzz without causing breakouts! You can read my full review of it here in case you missed it. I just ordered a fresh 2 month supply of replacement heads too.

Juvia’s Place The Tribe Palette

This came out in late 2018, but I didn’t get my hands on it until summer of 2019 as it was constantly sold out. This palette is so gorgeous. I love the color story of the greens with a little orange and brown tossed in. The formula is amazing and I’ve loved the looks I’ve created with it. You can read my foll review here if you missed it originally.

ColourPop Precision Brow Pencil

Another not new product but new to me in 2019. I got one in the Best In Brows kit I ordered and it was my favorite product in that kit. I’m currently on my 3rd one (with one more currently in my backup drawer), so for me, it’s THAT good. I just wish Ulta carried this brow pencil so I could get my hands on it easier.

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in Be My Highlight

Oh yeah, this one is DEFINITELY not new. Not by a long haul. But I never thought much about it until the latter half of 2019. I saw it at Ulta and it finally caught my eye and I remembered when just about EVERYONE raved about it. It was only like $3.99, so I decided to see if the hype was really real. ZOMFG…. IT IS REAL. SO REAL. I am kicking myself for not trying this highlighter sooner. It is absolutely GORGEOUS! You can apply it lightly for a nice, subtle glow, or build it up if you want to be a walking disco ball. I’ve been consistently grabbing for this highlighter ever since. It’s kind of the only highlighter I want to use half the time as it goes with EVERYTHING.

LA Girl Born Exclusive Palette

This palette was released in late 2019 and is/was tricky to find. You could only get it off LA Girl’s website, or in-store at select CVS locations that carry LA Girl (and not every CVS carries them). I have a couple palettes from LA Girl that I really like (Get Feverish & Wanderlust), and the colors in the Born Exclusive palette looked equally gorgeous and totally up my alley. I searched the CVS stores by me that carry LA Girl, but none of them had it. Through a weird twist of fate (and a random Instagram comment), CVS graciously hooked me up with the palette (and some other goodies) just before Christmas. This palette has neutrals, warm tones, jewel tones and a mix of finishes (matte, shimmer, metallic). The formula is even better than what I expected (it’s even better than the other 2 LA Girl palettes I own), and probably one of the absolute best drugstore palettes ever.

And that’s everything! What were some of your favorites throughout 2019?

As always, thank you all so much for reading! I’ll see you again soon in my next post!
