Hey guys! How’s it going?
Today’s post is… You want empties? We got empties!
Yep, the empties basket was severely overflowing and it was finally time to clean it out! We got a little of everything this time – hair care, skincare and lots of makeup! Some some old tired and true repeats as well as some new goodies to share my thoughts on.
You ready? Let’s dive into this thing!
Let’s start with the hair care!
Garnier Frutcis anti-humidity hairspray – If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you’ll know this is my favorite hairspray. It actually does hold up in humidity up to around 90% (after that… all bets are off). Since I live where it’s humid pretty much year round, a product like this is a must!
Garnier Fructis anti-humidity smoothing milk – Another old favorite. I love how it helps tame frizzies & flyaways without weighing my hair down. And like the hairspray, it holds up pretty well in humidity. I also like you can apply this to damp or dry hair.
Batiste dry shampoo – And another repeat! I got the original scent this time and I like it as well as I like the wild scent. This is probably the best drugstore dry shampoo out there. I recently picked up the new light & bare scent to try out and so far I’m liking that one too.
Up next we got some skincare!
Epielle Green Tea cleansing wipes – These are my favorite makeup wipes. They’re super inexpensive and do a good job taking off my makeup. And they don’t break me out.
CVS oil blotting sheets – I go through these like water. These work just as well as the Clean & Clear ones and cost a little less. I like stocking up when CVS has them buy one, get one 50% (or even buy one, get one free).
Foxbrim Orange Blossom Water Toner – This product was originally sent to me to review about a year and a half ago. I ended up loving it so much, I purchased a 2nd bottle with my own money. This is a really great toner for all skin types. It smells amazing (like orange blossom flowers) and is not harsh or stripping on the skin, but does a great job removing impurities. I’ll probably purchase another bottle in the future.
Olay Oil Minimizing Toner – I’ve gone through 2 or 3 bottle of this. I have another bottle that I’m currently using in rotation with another toner. This one works pretty good if you have oily or combo skin as it helps control oil production without stripping your skin and making it feel dry.
OZ Naturals Pro-Retaxinol 2.5 Serum – Yet another serum I’ve tried from OZ Naturals. This one is pretty good, just like the others. Retinol (aka Vitamin A) is a great anti-aging ingredient.
And finally… Makeup!
Wet N Wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray – I really like this setting spray. I’ve gone through probably close to a dozen bottles of it. It does a great job setting my makeup. But the bottle is so small you go through it fast!
NYX Matte Finishing Spray – I like this setting spray a lot too. Gone through multiple bottles of this as well. Right now I keep one in my purse to use as a skin refresher on hot/humid days. It works great that way.
Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Oil Control Fixing Spray – This is my current favorite setting spray. I find this one as well as the NYX and Wet N Wild ones all work as well as high end setting sprays. But the Makeup Revolution is the best value for the money as you get a good size bottle (3.38 fl. oz.) for $8.
NYX HD Studio Loose Translucent Finishing Powder – This is a pretty good setting powder. It’s pretty much a dupe for the one from Make Up For Ever.
NYX Pore Filler – This is my current favorite pore filling primer. It does a great job doing just that. I think it works just as well as the ones from Smashbox & Benefit. I had to cut the tube open to scrape the rest out but I used all that up as well and recently cracked open a fresh tube.
Too Faced Hangover Primer – This stuff has saved my butt many times. After the nights where I didn’t get much sleep, this primer helped revive my skin to help it look like I got a full night’s rest. It’s very hydrating. Since I have combination skin, I use this just on the normal parts of my face (cheeks & sides of my forehead). I recently purcahsed a fresh tube (this thing is big – you get over 1 fl. oz. of product – so it lasts a long time).
Cover FX Mattifying Primer with Anti-Acne Treatment – Got this as a 100 point reward sample from Sephora. It’s a pretty good primer. It mattifies without dying out my skin, so I can use it all over my face. I liked using this on days when I have a blemish or two that have popped up as the salicylic acid in it helps treat those nasty buggers.
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – I really like this foundation. If you have oily or combo skin, the trick to make this foundation work is to use a mattifying primer underneath and of course set with powder. I admit I like this foundation more in the late fall to early spring months here when it’s not as humid.
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation – I wanted to like this. I thought it would be a dupe for the Born This Way. And in a way it kind of is. I love the coverage and finish. But this mofo just would not set/dry on me properly for some reason. Even after setting with powder, it would still have a tacky feel to it and would transfer, which annoyed me to no end. I started using this on my “don’t give a flying rat’s ass” days just to get through the bottle. I will not be repurchasing it.
NYX HD Concealer – This is a favorite, I’ve gone through so many tubes of this stuff. It has great coverage and doesn’t crease on me.
ELF HD Lifting Concealer – I got this to see how it compares to the NYX version. I got the shade Light, which was actually too dark! That’s never happened to me before. I ended up using as a spot concealer and it was ok for that. it has decent coverage and blends out fine. But I won’t be repurchasing.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer – This is a travel size I purchased just to see what the hype was about. And I get it. It’s a really nice concealer that has great coverage and blends out beautifully. But I can’t justify spending almost $30 for a little tube of concealer, so I doubt I’ll be purchasing a full size.
ELF Instant Lift Brow Pencil – This is my current favorite brow product. It’s pigmented, makes my brows look natural (even though I have to draw on the inner 1/4 of them) and lasts all day even though it doesn’t claim to be waterproof. You get a lot of product and it’s only $2! I already have a new one I’ve been using.
Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil – This was sent to me as part of a PR package last year. This is a really great brow pencil. It’s kind of a high end version of the ELF one and works exactly the same.
Rimmel Brow This Way Clear Brow Gel – This is a decent drugstore brow gel. It did a fine job holding my brows in place (I don’t have unruly brows outside of a few hairs that need some extra control). I might repurchase sometime, but I want to try the NYX Control Freak brow gel as I’ve heard good things about it.
Essence Gel Liner – This stuff is awesome. It’s great if you’re a beginner with gel liner or if you’re an expert. It’s pigmented and once it sets it doesn’t budge until you take it off. I can get dried out fast sometimes, but a little trick I’ve learned is to add a few drops of argan oil, mix everything up and pop in the microwave for 10 seconds. Once it’s cooled it’s good as new!
Nailene Brush On Nail Glue – This nail glue isn’t bad. It’s not the best I’ve ever used but it’s not the worst either. It was there for me when I needed it and that’s what matters.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – This is just a mini size I got as my birthday present from Ulta last year. This is my favorite high end mascara at the moment. I love how it makes my lashes look. I have a full size I currently have in rotation with some other mascaras.
Jordana Best Last Extreme Mascara – This little drugstore mascara is pretty awesome. It’s my 2nd favorite drugstore one after the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect. Just one coat makes my lashes look fuller. I have a new tube, but I haven’t cracked it open yet as I have some other mascaras to get through first.
Maybelline Lash Discovery Waterproof Mascara – This is my favorite mascara to use on my lower lashes as it’s waterproof and has a tiny, thin wand.
Nars Audacious Mascara – I got this mini size in a sampler bag from Sephora last year. This mascara did absolutely nothing for my lashes. Nothing. The brush is really weird and doesn’t seem to hold much product at all as my lashes were barely coated even after trying to apply a 2nd or even 3rd coat of this stuff.
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara – This is another mini size I got as a gift with purchase. This mascara was surprisingly decent. It makes my lashes stand out a bit while still looking natural. I’m debating on whether I want to purchase a full size of this in the future.
And that is everything! If you made it to the end… congratulations!
