Hey guys! How’s it going? Happy Friday! Got anything fun planned this weekend? I do… I’m going back to Walt Disney World (going to Epcot with some friends to check out this year’s Flower & Garden Festival). I’ll be sharing some photos on my Instagram and Twitter, so if you want to follow along with my day, be sure to be following me on one or the other (or both)
For today’s post, I’m going to share with you my holy grail beauty products. Some are high end and some are drugstore. Got lots to talk about, so grab yourself an iced coffee (or whatever beverage you prefer) and let’s get going!
I’m going to break this down in the order I apply everything to my face.
I have a few primers I absolutely love and can’t do without. First is the Make Up For Ever Step 1 mattifying primer. This stuff is so great if you have oily skin. It works pretty much immediately to mattify and helps control oil throughout the day too. I only use this on my nose and chin (the oily parts of my face), so just a travel size tube can last me up to 6 months. I also really love the Becca Ever Matte primer. It works just like the one from MUFE, but it has a little bit thicker consistency. I use these primers interchangeably (I just use the first one I grab that day).
Next is the L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Base. This stuff is the schnizzit. Really a total game changer. It’s a pore filler and it works amazingly. I’m currently using the CVS version of it (which some have said is a slightly less expensive dupe), but the consistency isn’t as thick as the L’Oreal (I like a thick pore filler as I feel it does the job better… for me at least).
If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know my holiest of holy grails is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. I only started using this last year and I really wish I had tried it sooner. No foundation has wowed me so much since I tried the original Bare Minerals back in 2005 (and used nothing but that for nearly 10 years straight). It has amazing full coverage but feels light on the skin and never looks cakey. It helps control my oil really well and this stuff does not budge until you take it off. I’ve worn it for over 15 hours in the heat, humidity, rain… you name it. And maybe sometimes I’ll need a minor touchup at some point (usually after several hours), but other than that, this foundation really holds up.
I have one other foundation that I absolutely love and have gone through several bottles of – the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation. This stuff works really great for a drugstore foundation! It lasts all day on me (I can consistently get 12-15+ hours of wear), has great coverage and doesn’t look cakey.
Both of my favorite concealers are from the drugstore and both are by NYX.
The NYX Dark Circle Concealer has been a life saver for me. It does a great job camouflaging my dark circles. A little goes a long way.
And the NYX HD Concealer is great for layering on top of the dark circle concealer, for spot concealing and even highlighting. It blends out really well and does not crease on me (when set with powder).
There’s two categories of powder I want to talk about – for setting my under eye concealer and for setting the rest of my face.
For my under eye, I love mixing the beige and yellow highlight shades in the Lorac Pro Contour palette. But I have a new HG too – the yellow shade in the Elf contour palette. It’s soft and creamy and works so well.
To set the rest of my face, I have serious love for the Coty Airspun powder. I use the shade Translucent Extra Coverage. It does have a very strong smell (like old lady perfume out the wazoo), but I love it because I remember my grandma used this powder too and every time I use it, it reminds me of her. But if you’re sensitive to smells, you’d want to avoid it. But this powder works so well setting foundation, It’s super finely milled, helps blur pores and doesn’t look overly powdery/cakey once applied and buffed in good. I love applying this with a damp Beauty Blender.
The Milani Eyeshadow Primer is so good. It’s like $5 or $6 and lasts a long time because a little goes a long way. It works just as good as high end eye primers.
As for an eye base, I have been totally hooked on the MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre since I got it. I’ve been using it pretty much every day for months. It really helps shadows pop and look more vibrant.
The Lorac and Lorac Pro 2 palettes have everything you could ever need. Great mix of matte and shimmer shades. The shadows are super buttery soft, super pigmented, and apply & blend like a freaking dream. Who could ask for anything more?
I have 3 words: Essence Gel Liner. This stuff is amazing. It’s the perfect consistency (not dry but not overly creamy), super pigmented and lasts all day long. It seriously will not budge until you take it off. And it’s so affordable (it costs like $3 or $4).
This is a category that can change at a moment’s notice. But since last summer, my HG mascara is the Urban Decay Perversion. I love the way it makes my lashes look without clumping them together or making them feel stiff/crunchy.
I’m always on the hunt for the next big thing for brows. My current favorites are the Universal Brow Pencil and brow powder from Billion Dollar Brows. I was sent this to review awhile back and I’ve been using these products pretty much every day every since. The pencil is super pigmented and though it doesn’t claim to be waterproof, it lasts all day. The powder has virtually no fallout and does a great job filling in sparse areas.
I have two bronzers that I absolutely love.
First is the Smashbox Bronze Lights bronzer in Suntan Matte. Unfortunately this has been discontinued, but I was able to score a full size last fall at Nordstrom Rack for half the normal price. This bronzer is on the warm side, but not too warm. And it’s a nice brown shade, not orangey at all. It’s so perfect for warming up the face.
And then there’s the Benefit Hoola. This bronzer is amazing because it’s more on the neutral side and even pulls just the tiniest bit cool enough you can use this for light contouring as well as bronzing. Gotta love a multi-tasker!
The Jordana blush in Touch of Pink. This blush is so perfect. It’s the perfect pink with a hint of peachy/coral. I’ve been totally obsessed with this blush since I got it last summer. It’s not super pigmented, but that’s good as you can build up the color payoff to your liking. And it’s super affordable too (I think the Jordana blushes are like $3).
My favorite highlighter of all time (so far) has to be the Benefit Watt’s Up. It’s a gorgeous champagne color that can be subtle or built up for a more intense highlight. It comes in a stick form and has a really nice cream to powder finish.
For lip pencil, I love the ones from NYX. They come in tons of colors, are super pigmented and creamy. In a way I like them a little better than the ones from MAC. But my favorite shades are Ever (pinky brown), Mauve and Peekaboo Neutral (the perfect nude pink). All three of these liners go with tons of lipsticks. Sorry no photos… I have to repurchase all 3 of these as I’ve used mine all up!
For lipstick, I have a few all-time favorites (and they’re all in the same basic shade family). First is MAC’s Twig. This is such a gorgeous pinky brown that’s a “my lips but better” shade. Another lipstick that I can’t live without is the Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Naturally Chic, which is a really pretty rosy pink shade. And lastly is a newer addition, but I love it so much already – the Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Pepper. Sadly this line has been discontinued, but the shade Pepper is part of the Amuse Bouche line that took its place (I swatched it and it’s the exact same shade as the previous line). Pepper is a gorgeous dusty rose shade. I love the formulas of all of these lipsticks. They’re all super pigmented, go on smooth, are comfortable on the lips and they all have good staying power too.
For lipgloss I only have one that I can’t live without… the NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Angel Food Cake. This gloss is the perfect mauvey nude pink shade. It’s got really good pigmentation, isn’t overly sticky/tacky on the lips, has decent staying power for a gloss… and it smells like cake! I actually own 2 in this shade (one I keep at home and the other I keep in my purse).
I’ve tried lots of setting sprays over the last year and the two I like best are both from the drugstore.
The NYX Matte Finish spray and the Wet N Wild PhotoFocus Setting Spray, in my opinion, work just as well as the Urban Decay All-Nighter. Both of these drugstore sprays work so well at locking your makeup in place… and they cost just a fraction of the price of the UD one (the NYX one is like $7.99 and the Wet N Wild one is just $5 or $6).
And those are my all of my holy grail beauty products! What are some of your holy grail products? Tell me about them below in the comments.
As always, thank you all so much for reading and your support. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you again on Monday with a new post! 🙂
