How To Maximize Your Savings When Makeup Shopping

Hey guys! How’s your week going?

Today’s post is going to be a little different. I’m going to share with you some tips and tricks I’ve learned to get the most bang for your buck when shopping for beauty products. Got that large coffee and bagel ready? Let’s get going!

I’m going to break this down store by store.

If you’re not a member of their Ultamate Rewards program… join! It’s free! You earn I believe 1 point per dollar you spend. Every 100 points earns you $3.00 that you can use toward whatever you want in the store, including high end products. And on your birthday, they’ll email you a coupon to redeem for a free gift, which varies from year to year. If you spend $450 in a year, you automatically get upgraded to Platinum status. Platinum members earn 25% more points (1.25 points for every dollar spent) and you get an additional birthday gift – a coupon for $10 off your entire purchase.

Save up your rewards points as long as you can (if you’re Platinum your points never expire). A few times a year, Ulta sends rewards members coupons for up to 20% off your entire purchase, including high end items. Use the discount along with your rewards to get those high end products that have been on your wishlist for a steal!

Take advantage of the Buy One, Get One 50% off or Buy One, Get One Free deals Ulta does from time to time. Keep an eye on the monthly and weekly ads to see when your favorite drugstore products are on special, and then stock up!

Keep an eye out for events like the 21 Days of Beauty and Love Your Hair. Each day during these events, Ulta has an extra special deal on one or two high end products. It’s a great time to get good deals on those pricier items.

Did you know Ulta accepts manufacturer’s coupons? And that you can stack those manufacturer coupons with their own coupons? It’s true!

Now, Sephora is a tricky one. The only real tip I can give you for them is to join their Beauty Insiders rewards program if you’re not already a member (again, it’s free). And try to save those items you want most from your wishlist for when they have their semi-annual sale. They’ll send you a coupon that’s $15 to $25 off a purchase of $50 or more (depending on if your status – Beauty Insider, VIB or VIB Rouge).

Download Target’s Cartwheel app onto your phone (it’s free!). They have various deals on all sorts of products, including beauty. Discounts can range from 5% to 25% off various brands and items, and new deals are added often.

You can stack a manufacturer’s coupon with a deal from the Cartwheel app or a Target online coupon that you can print at home. And if you have a Target Red Card, you can stack your 5% discount on top of all those as well.

You can also stack coupons on top of sale prices for additional savings.

If you’re not a member of their ExtraCare rewards program, join (again… free!). Also sign up for their free Beauty Club and link your membership to your ExtraCare card.

If you’re a Beauty Club member, for every $50 you spend on beauty products, you get $5 in ExtraBucks rewards. And for your birthday, they’ll send you a $3 ExtraBucks reward.

ExtraCare rewards members get coupons sent often (as little as twice a month and as often as every week) for discounts off your entire purchase, anywhere from 10% to 30% off (some are good in-store only, some are good online only, and some are good both in-store and online). There’s a catch though… you can’t use these coupons on items that are on sale. But there’s a bit of a loophole, which I’ll get to in a moment.

If you download the CVS app onto your phone (it’s free), you can link your ExtraCare card and take advantage of app-only coupons and send them directly to your rewards card. Now here’s the loophole I mentioned – you can stack those app-only coupons with the percent off your total purchase coupons… and you can stack manufacturer’s coupons and any ExtraBucks rewards on top of all that as well! It sounds a little complicated I know, but it’s easy to master. Just the other weekend, I went to CVS, purchased around $40 worth of stuff and after all the coupons and discounts, only paid $20 for it all.

Join their Balance Rewards program (it’s free) if you’re not already a member. Earning rewards with them is tricky though as you have to earn a LOT of points to get just a $5 reward. But, several times a year, they’ll send you exclusive coupons and discounts off your entire purchase.

You can stack Walgreens coupons with manufacturer coupons.

Take advantage of Buy One, Get One 50% deals on your favorite brands/products.

And that about does it! I hope some of these tips help you out the next time you’re shopping for beauty products! Do you have any tips/tricks of your own you’d like to share? Tell me about them below in the comments.

As always, thank you all so much for reading! I hope the rest of your day is good to you and I’ll see you again Friday with a new post! 🙂

  1. I wish we had Ulta here! COME TO CANADA, ULTA!!!
CVS Extra Care rewards also sound awesome!
I still don’t understand why Sephora doesn’t up their loyalty game – it sucks big time. I guess they don’t really NEED to, bah.

  2. Great tips! I would also mention that Target has a great beauty box that offers tons of samples for like $5-$10. It’s a great introduction to products you may have seen but aren’t willing to fork up money for it or just for any beauty junkie who loves to try things. 🙂
