Hey guys! Happy Friday!
Today’s post is going to be a review of the Tough Stuff Body Scrub and Chocolate Whip Body Moisturiser from Cocoa Brown. These products were sent to be by Cocoa Brown in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Now with that out of the way…
So, Cocoa Brown reached out to me recently asking if I’d like to try and review some of their products. I had never heard of this brand/company before, but a little research told me they’re one of the top selling self-tanning lines in Ireland and the UK, and they recently launched in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden) and the US (New York, Boston, Miami) as well. The brand was created in 2012 by Marissa Carter, who spent several years working in the beauty industry and is also one of the top beauty editors in Ireland/UK.
Now, I don’t self tan. I’ve tried in the past and never cared for it. It’s time consuming, it has always looked streaky, and/or I end up looking like an Oompa Loompa. Pretty much just a hot mess. But they told me they have products for non-tanners, so I decided to give those products a try.
Let’s start with the Tough Stuff Body Scrub. Here’s a product description:
Cocoa Brown By Marissa Carter TOUGH STUFF 3 in 1 Body Scrub is a no-nonsense scrub for rough areas of the body, perfect for the feet, ankles, knees, elbows and hands. This amazing exfoliating scrub is brilliant to prepare the skin for tanning, removing stubborn old tan and of course, leave your skin silky smooth.
This is not one of those body scrubs that has those little plastic bead scrubbies. This body scrub is made from ground pumice stone. You only use this scrub on your body, NOT YOUR FACE. The scrub itself is a kind of hot pink color and has a light scent that I can’t exactly pinpoint, but it’s kind of floral-ish. You can use it on wet or dry skin. I’ve been using this in the shower and let me tell you, this scrub is pretty dang awesome. It’s not harsh on my skin and has just the right consistency of scrubbies. After applying and rinsing it off… my skin feels unbelievably smooth. Also want to note it has not caused any breakouts or bad reactions either, which of course is always a good thing. And if you do self-tan, this scrub is a great exfoliator to prepare your skin for self-tanner.
Now let’s talk about the Chocolate Whip Body Moisturiser (using their spelling here since that’s how they have it – I always liked their use of S and U in words over American spelling). This moisturizer was designed to help self-tan last longer and fade more evenly, but you can use this product even if you don’t self tan.
Here’s some more product info:
Using Chocolate Whip Oil-Free Body Moisturiser as part of your tanning regime will ensure your Cocoa Brown by Marissa Cartertan fades slowly and evenly, exactly what Marissa knew her customers were looking for in a moisturiser! Most body lotions currently on the market contain oil, which causes your tan to fade unevenly. Mousse based tans, like Cocoa Brown, are usually water based and as we all remember from our science classes – oil and water just don’t mix!
The moisturiser is also highly nourishing to your skin and has benefits beyond that of maintaining the perfect Cocoa Brown tan. Chocolate Whip contains panthenol, which is suitable for acne-prone skin as it moisturizes while leaving pores clean and clear. Forming a barrier on the skin’s surface, panthenol helps to protect against everyday environmental damage. It also contains Vitamin E which helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks, age spots and also strengthens the skins barrier function.
Ok so the color of this body moisturizer is… brown. That makes sense since it was created to prolong self-tan and all that. And so it looks like… yeah. LOL! But even though it’s brown, it does not tint the skin (since it’s not self-tanner). And hence the name Chocolate Whip, it has a faint chocolate scent as well (a plus if you’re a chocolate fan), but nothing overpowering. It feels smooth when applied and a little can go a long way (I learned that the hard way first time I used it). When you use the right amount, it absorbs into the skin quick and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling. My skin feels soft and smooth. This also did not cause any breakouts or bad reactions, so again, thumbs up in that department.
So overall I liked both of these products. If you’re interested in checking out Cocoa Brown for yourself, you can check out their website. They offer worldwide shipping on online orders. If you’re in the US, you can find this brand at Ricky’s NYC (they have physical stores in NYC and Miami as well as their online store) and Glow Beauty in the Boston area.
Ok that should do it for today! Have you tried anything from Cocoa Brown? Is this a brand you might try? Tell me your thoughts below in the comments.
As always, thank you all so much for reading! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you again Monday with a new post! 🙂
