Review & Swatches: MAC Lipsticks in Nippon & Retro

Hey there, beauties! How’s your week going?

Today’s post is going to be a quick review and some swatches of a couple of MAC lipsticks I picked up recently. Got that iced coffee (or preferred beverage of choice) ready? Let’s get going!

Retro on the left, Nippon on the right

Ok so I picked up a couple of MAC lipsticks as part of my big birthday haul earlier this month. I had actually went to the MAC counter the weekend before and swatched out maybe 20 different ones before picking 4 favorites. I then went back on a much less busy day (Saturday’s are insane!) and tried them all on. I ended up liking all 4, but only purchased 2 (gives me an excuse to go back and get the others later). The two I picked out were Nippon & Retro.

Nippon is described on the MAC website as a “creamy midtone coral pink” with a creamsheen pearl finish. This color is so pretty! It’s pretty pigmented for a creamsheen finish too. It’s not too bright so it’s perfect for wear any time.

Retro is described as a “muted peachy-pinky brown” with a satin finish. I love this shade so much. The 90’s inspired lip is a popular trend right now and this lipstick falls dead into that trend. I like it has both peach and pink undertone to warm it up so the brown itself isn’t so overpowering. And also since it has both pink and peach undertones, you can wear a lip liner that has either of those tones with it.

As always, these MAC lipsticks apply really nicely and wear for a good amount of time. I wore Retro out last Friday night and got a few compliments on it.

Nippon on top. Retro on bottom.

MAC recently upped the price of their lipsticks from $16 to $17, which is disappointing but I know these price increases happen from time to time. Doesn’t make it suck any less though.

Anyhow, that should do it for today! Do you have either of these shades? If so, do you like them? If you don’t have them, do you plan on getting either (or both)? Sound off below in the comments!

As always, thank you all so much for reading! Have a good one and I’ll see you again Friday with a new post! πŸ™‚

  1. Oh, I love Retro! So nice! You probably know this already but keep the lipstick bullets once you are done with the lipsticks. For every six empty plastic containers you return to them (lipstick bullets, eyeshadow and blush cases, etc) you get a free lipstick, eyeshadow or lipgloss of your choice, depending if it’s at a MAC store or a free standing counter. πŸ™‚
