My Holy Grail Makeup Products

Holy Grail Makeup

Hi there beauties! Happy Friday!

For today’s post, I’ll be sharing with you my Holy Grail makeup products. I’m going to give both high end and drugstore/affordable picks for each category (when possible). You got that large coffee/tea and bakery treat of choice ready? Let’s get to it!

My current holy grail high end foundation is the Estee Lauder Double Wear. I remember hearing so much about it and finally decided to get a sample of it at Macy’s and see how it compared to my previous holy grail, the MAC Pro Longwear. I was seriously impressed with the Double Wear after just the first use and once my sample ran out, I went back and bought a full size bottle. This stuff has amazing coverage (it really covers all my problem areas wonderfully without looking cakey), has a nice semi-matte finish, controls my oil really well and it does not budge until you take it off, meaning it withstands heat and humidity like nobody’s business. In case you were wondering, I wear this foundation in the shade 3C1 Dusk.

Now for the drugstore, I’m going with the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation. This stuff has great coverage, a beautiful matte but not flat finish and it stays put in heat/humidity, which is great for a drugstore foundation. I wear this foundation in shade 201 Classic Beige.

The Mineral Veil by Bare Minerals is my holy grail high end powder. It’s soft and silky, absorbs excess oil to help keep me matte, plus it has SPF 15, so this is a great daytime setting powder. I actually keep a compact of the pressed version in my purse at all times for on-the-go touch-ups.

For drugstore my pick is the NYX HD Finishing Powder. This powder is pretty much a dupe for the Make Up For Ever HD Powder and I’ve heard some say the NYX version feels even more finely milled than MUFE. This stuff makes my foundation look flawless. If you blend it out really good, it doesn’t cause that dreaded backflash. I’ve used both the loose and pressed versions and I like them both, but I will admit I like the pressed a little better as it’s less messy.

Eye Shadow

In case you didn’t know… I am a MAJOR eye shadow junkie. I’d say at least half of my makeup collection is eye makeup.

My holy grail high end eye shadow is…. my Lorac Pro Palettes. Both of them. I love how soft and pigmented the shadows are and how they apply and blend so beautifully. I’m grabbing for one or the other (or both) at least a couple times a week, either to create a full look using just that palette or using them in collaboration with other palettes.

For drugstore/affordable eye shadow, for me it’s a tie between the NYX single shadows and the ColourPop Super Shock Shadows.

The NYX single shadows are really nice. They’re soft, pigmented and you’d think they were high end shadows if you didn’t see the NYX logo on the packaging.

Sadly my Prismatic Shadow in Fireball isn’t pictured here because it fell yesterday morning and shattered on my bathroom floor. I tried to salvage it, but it was a lost cause. So mad because I hadn’t even used it yet! I’ll be picking up a new one this weekend at Ulta… if I can find another!

And then there’s ColourPop. These shadows are worth the hype they’ve been getting. The texture and formula is so unique. I love how easy you can just apply them with your fingers (though I do like using a small, flat concealer brush for more precision). I’m still totally obsessed with Partridge and La La (and I plan on getting more of these shadows in the near future).

You know what? I don’t have a holy grail high end blush. Huh.

Drugstore though, I love my NYX HD blush in Amber. The shade is so pretty and is actually a great year-round color. Mine sadly broke and even though I was able to repair it with rubbing alcohol, it recently spontaneously combusted again, so I’ll be picking up a new one at Ulta this weekend (if they have it in stock! *fingers crossed*)

I remember a time when I hated wearing lipstick. I’d always get it on my teeth and it would wear off too fast for my liking. Now? Yeah total 360 on that stance. I’ve become a lipstick junkie!

My favorite high end lipsticks are my MAC ones. I only have a couple, but I really love them a lot. They don’t dry out my lips, have good color payoff and last a long time.

My favorite drugstore lipsticks are a no-brainer if you’ve been following my blog for awhile. It’s the Milani Color Statement lipsticks. These things are freaking amazeballs. Creamy, pigmented, non-drying and long-wearing. What more can you ask for?

My holy grail high end mascara is hands down the Smashbox Full Exposure. I freaking love this stuff. I don’t know what it is, but I love how it makes my lashes look. It gives them volume and length without having to slather on a bazillion coats.

Full Exposure

My holy grail drugstore mascara…. this was a tough one as there are a lot of great drugstore mascaras out there. If I have to choose one as my favorite, I’d have to go with the Rimmel Wonder’Lash with Argan Oil (waterproof formula). This little mascara impressed me a lot from the first time I tried it. I normally don’t like wetter formula mascaras, which this one is, but for some reason, I like this one. I also love how it doesn’t make your lashes feel crunchy/stiff when wearing.

I’ll admit I don’t have a holy grail high end primer… yet. But there are some good ones I’ve tried. I really loved the sample I got of the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Mattifier and I’ll be picking up a travel size tube at Sephora this weekend, so I guess you could say that.

MUFE Step 1

For drugstore, I’m going with the L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Base. This one was a major game changer for me. I mainly use it just in my T-zone, but you can use it all over your face if you want. So glad I was able to score all those travel sized ones at Dollar Tree last year!

And there you have it!

What are some of your holy grail makeup products? Tell me all about them below in the comments.

As always, thank you all so much for reading! I hope you have a fantabulous, fun-filled weekend and I’ll see you again Monday with a new post! 🙂

  1. Nice list! I too, love, love the Estee Lauder foundation! When I was going through some skin issues, I tried over half a dozen foundations and the Double Wear looked the most natural and lasted the longest. I have been curious about those Milani lipsticks though, what shades do you have pictured (or would recommend in general)?

  2. Love your Holy Grail list! I have to try Milani Lipsticks, the NYX powder, & Rimmel Mascara someday. I grab for Maybelline when I get drugstore mascara, NYX for drugstore lipstick, & L’Oreal Infallibles are my favorite drugstore shadows!

  3. Love this post — always interesting and fun to see what other bloggers reach for time and time again. 😀

I agree with you about Bare Minerals Mineral Veil; it’s my fave powder too. Really blurs out my pores yet doesn’t make my normal-to-dry older skin too dry. For a higher end blush, have you tried any in the new “Pop” line from Clinique? I just picked up Fig Pop and can’t believe how much I love it. Looks so natural.

Do you have a favorite drugstore eye shadow palette? I agree with you about Nyx singles — love ’em! — but rarely find a good drugstore or cheaper palette. Formula and pigmentation never seems as good.

    • Yeah the drugstore palettes just don’t cut it for me. The singles end up being much better quality.

I own one high end blush. One by Bare Minerals. It’s nice but not holy grail status for me. The drugstore brands make some great blushes so I don’t see the point of spending a lot of money on that. As for highlighters I want to try the Becca ones but they’re too spendy.
